The Freshmen Class of 2018 came into high school this year very spirited, but when it came time for Spirit Week, the excitement had dipped. The Sophomore Class of 2017 brought an outstanding amount of energy and were ready to win. The Junior class of 2016 tried to beat the seniors at all costs, but they ultimately came up short. There were people in every grade that didn’t try, while others went all out everyday. In the end, Spirit Week 2015 was won by the seniors.

Last month, Coventry High School held its annual Spirit Week. Some students questioned if the games were rigged. Others wondered if the seniors deserved to win. Who really brought the most spirit? Some like to say seniors always win and no other grade has a chance, but the facts beg to differ.

On Monday, juniors won pajama day. Day two was hat/costume day, and the seniors had a strong showing which ultimately led to their victory. Wednesday, day three of spirit week, was the most spirited day of the entire week. Every grade brought their energy to color wars! The juniors won color wars, but every grade participated by painting faces and tagging others with duct tape. Everyone was ready for the battle! Thursday was formal day, which was a nice change of pace after the insanity of color wars. The formal day was taken home by the juniors. A few guys even came into school with so much spirit that they stood on tables and sang “Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake to get everyone amped to end the week. Day five, the last day of the week, was of course white and red day and it helped to unite every grade. Red and white day was won by the seniors.
In addition to the themed days, points were also awarded after school during the afternoon/night activities. Monday’s after school activity was Human Trouble, which was won by the seniors. On Tuesday, the dance competition was held after school in the gym. The seniors won, but other grades were upset, believing that they had bested the seniors. On Wednesday, the activities consisted of table tennis and Almost Anything Goes. Seniors swept both categories. Freshmen finally realized that they needed to bring more energy, because no one can ever win anything if they do not try. Thursday was class feud which was a landslide win for the sophomores. The last event was the lip sync contests on Friday night. The solo and group lip syncs were won by the overall winners of the week, the Class of 2015.
- Monday- Pajama day: The most lively day of the week? Pajama day was very lively and many people were awake and spirited, not down and sleepy.
- Tuesday- Crazy hat/costume day: Although they did not win, people from every grade agreed if there was a category for diversity, the freshmen would have won based on their unique costumes.
- Wednesday- Freshmen realize they could have won? This was realized when the seniors banded with the sophomores and they chanted for each other to win each activity and when the juniors tried to do the same with the freshmen, they never even tried because they all thought what’s the point if it is rigged for Seniors.
- Thursday- Class feud. Simple questions. Hard game. Until the last round, the freshmen held on to first place.
- Friday- As many of you had possibly heard, there was a fire alarm during the lip sync Friday night. But the funniest part was that it was so cold that before everyone was cleared for entry, someone shouted RUN!! and everyone standing outside bolted to every door they could find.
