No Time for Boredom this Holiday Season! By Christiana Votta
It's that time of the year again when everyone is waiting in anticipation for winter break. It's that time when we can momentarily retire our school bags and paperwork to enjoy the holiday season. However, during the break, we all reach a point in time where boredom is our worst enemy—leading us to ponder the question; what to do? To help alleviate this boredom I came up with a list of events or small activities that students can attend with friends and families.
It’s that time of the year again when everyone is waiting in anticipation for winter break. It’s that time when we can momentarily retire our school bags and paperwork to enjoy the holiday season. However, during the break, we all reach a point in time where boredom is our worst enemy—leading us to ponder the question; what to do? To help alleviate this boredom I came up with a list of events or small activities that students can attend with friends and families.
While searching for holiday destinations, I couldn’t help but include an event that holds a place of nostalgia in all the hearts of those raised in Coventry (The Coventry Annual Tree Lighting). Some may argue that this event is “only for the young kids’, however, it can be argued that this event is for all ages! The environment, yes, is very family-friendly, and usually targeted towards younger children, but it’s a great place to spend time with family and friends. This year it is being hosted on December 1st at 6 pm. Where there will of course be hot chocolate and beautiful holiday lights! This is the perfect outing especially if you’re worried about spending money. It is also a great example that you don’t need to spend money to have a fun time with family and friends. Who wouldn’t want to embrace some good old nostalgia this December?
Another great destination is Edaville in Massachusetts, a family theme park that changes due to the holiday season. One of the main reasons to go is their holiday train which goes around the park for about 5 minutes displaying the beautiful Christmas lights. For students with cars and a little extra money in their pocket, this is the perfect place to go with friends and family!
Last year I had the opportunity to go to Edaville with my family and friends, where we went on a train ride. The whole park and ride felt so magical and festive, especially because the day before it snowed. So I recommend this; if you’re not interested in the rides there are always cute shops where you can find trinkets to cherish! This holiday event will be held from the 9th of December through the 31st of December. I know I am eager to go back and experience this magical theme park!
Outside of travel and destinations, some boredom-relieving activities could be as simple as making homemade ornaments with friends. It’s a cute and cozy activity all from the comfort of your own home, where you can create lasting memories. There’s nothing more enjoyable than spending time with the friends you love while making pretty interesting-looking ornaments. I know the last time I did this, I couldn’t stop laughing at my friend and my creations. So this activity is highly recommended; to heighten the experience I recommend playing a movie in the background and enjoying some good snacks!
These are all great events and activities you can do over the holidays. However, it’s not only about events and travel, it’s about who you’re with. Whether you’re able to see your long-distance family or those near. The people closest to you are the ones that make all these events so special. So this holiday season let the people you love know how much you love and appreciate them!
