The government forces us to sit here and learn
Meanwhile, they have little to no concern
It’s 2018 and kids don't feel safe in school
Honestly, I think it’s really cruel
I’m sitting in class and it’s really boring
I feel like laying on the desk and snoring
But I have to do this CCA
That I will probably get a zero on anyway
I’m stuck in this building that’s dull and cold
I have to stay here for six more hours I was told
The government forces us to sit here and learn
Meanwhile, they have little to no concern
It’s 2018 and kids don’t feel safe in school
Honestly, I think it’s really cruel
Government officials sit back all day
While so many kids are trying to stand up and say
“We need to take action on gun control”
While others are suffering from bullet holes
Action has been taken in other countries
In the US, lives are still ending bluntly
Kids never know when something tragic may occur
It can all happen in seconds and become a distant blur
Maybe that’s why I don’t want to get out of bed
Because I know that when I go to school tears could be shed
It’s a serious fear in the United States
While politicians are having debates
Over useless things like who won the election
Meanwhile there is so much imperfection
Who cares about the Russian spies
While innocent people continue to die
All because our government can’t get their stuff together
To some, talking about gun control is like talking about weather
Not enough people care
Maybe they’ll open their eyes when their own children aren’t there
Nobody thinks it will happen at their school
And then they will realize that they were fools
Tragedies like these could be prevented
Too many incidents have been documented
So, the next time I get out of out of bed
And I hug my mom as she kisses me on the head
I will be thankful for everything I’ve got
Because I don’t know if I’ll see her again or not
