You might be thinking, why would anyone even care about the courtyard? No one even uses it. Well why not? Why not do something genuine and help out? We made a plan and committed to a date and time to do the clean up.
Cleaning Up the Courtyard during Advisory
BY SHIVANI MULAHOO
The courtyard between the 100 and the 500 classrooms were full of weeds and it was rather untidy, which is a shame because it´s a really cool area. It has these gorgeous paintings, murals, and a cute little gazebo in the corner.
Our advisors, Mrs. Boyle and Ms. Spaziano, had the brilliant idea to take action and clear up the space we look at outside our advisory classroom in room 504. They asked us, as juniors, if we would be willing to help make CHS a nicer space. Mrs. Boyle asked, “As the upper classmen of the school, do you want to set a positive tone? Do you want to serve as a good example to others of taking pride in our school?”

It was great to be outside instead of sitting inside all day. Armed with work gloves provided by our advisors and a willingness to work, my fellow junior classmates twelve recycle bags worth of weeds and debris from the space during advisory on Tuesday, September 29th.
The classes that looked onto the courtyard had students in advisory cheering us on as we worked. Several teachers in those rooms thanked us for helping out. “That looks awesome; thank you,” said Ms. Tundis.
Amanda Brailey, who is in the advisory and part of the “cleanup crew” said it made her feel happy to partake in making CHS a better looking environment.
