CHS Homecoming was on the weekend of September 18th. The sun was shining bright on the beautiful warm morning at the Homecoming Day Parade. The parade began at Wood Street, starting promptly at 10:45am. The parade featured joyous music and performances to put cheerful smiles on students’ faces. Each grade had its own theme based on a broadway musical like High School Musical and The Lion King.
Waiting by the side of the road listening to the triumphant sounds of drums, the first thing seen was the band marching dressed in red and white with flags being held by some students in JROTC directly in front of them. Of course there were police cars blocking off the road to ensure the students safety. Next, the cheerleaders drove by and built up the suspense of what was yet to come.
Next in the procession was the class of 2016 seniors barreling down the street in costumes such as Dorothy, the Tin- Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, munchkins and many more. The seniors did some outstanding work on their float. Trees were everywhere and even a piece of yellow fabric was being held by a few students to symbolize the yellow brick road that is so often seen in the musical The Wizard of Oz.
Some clubs even joined in on the fun of the Homecoming Parade. World Language Club got very creative and made their own float. They used the musical Les Misérables for their theme. Also, student council participated in this occasion. They chose Grease as their float theme.
The class of 2017 juniors decided on the Lion King for their float. It was pretty inventive to see people dressed in costumes with elaborate stage makeup creating an incredible resemblance to the animals they portrayed. Some students even tried to copy the sounds that those different animals make. It must have been tons of fun to walk down the street acting like a wild animal.
Sophomores in the class of 2018 choose High School Musical for their theme. Some students were dressed in wildcat cheerleading costumes while everyone else was dressed in red and white. It was a good visual for the theme they picked. There was also a huge banner they held in front of them while they walked and many other smaller posters were seen too.
Later on that same day, at 7:00pm, the Homecoming Dance was held. The decorations were hung everywhere and food was not in short supply. Music blasted for the next three hours. When it came time, the Homecoming King and Queen were announced. Zach Najarian was crowned Homecoming King and Samatha Dwyer was crowned Queen. This was certainly a night under the stars.
Many students showed up for this delightful event. If you didn’t get to experience this moment this year, then you should plan for next year. Make sure to get your ticket because you don’t want to miss out on the unforgettable memories that get created at CHS Homecoming.
