Not the End to Senior Year the Class of 2020 Ever Expected BY CONNOR MCKAIG
We now learn from our computer screens at home, rather than in the classroom surrounded by our friends. We now practice our spring sports alone, instead of on the field with our teammates. And, most painful of all, we may never share the full experience of the senior prom, senior supper, or graduation at the Ryan Center, events that are meant to be cherished and remembered fondly for years to come.
Not the End to Senior Year the Class of 2020 Ever Expected
BY CONNOR MCKAIG
The CHS Class of 2020 was once labeled as the class of perfect vision on spirit week t-shirts, but now that vision has been clouded by the uncertainty of the future. Senior year was meant to be the grand finale of our high school experience, a time to make memories that will stick with us through college or whatever else lies ahead. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has come along and turned our entire world upside down, rendering our daily lives unrecognizable.
During this unprecedented time in our lives, we have been forced into accepting a “new normal”, one that requires us to give up so much of what gives our life meaning. However, in spite of all the hardships that face us, the Class of 2020 has found ways to push forward and make these last couple of months of our high school career count. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that the amount of support that we have received from our parents and teachers has been greatly appreciated.
Recently, a Facebook campaign has begun to give the seniors some much-needed positive attention in their lives. “Adopt a Senior Coventry RI” is a group filled with Coventry’s wonderful parents, teachers, and students who have mobilized to ensure that every senior is “adopted”, and given the recognition that they deserve. Each student can be claimed by up to two people, who can send them gifts and cards to brighten their day in this disappointing time.
While this may have not been the end we had been hoping for, the class of “perfect vision” is glad to see the immense outpouring of support from the community. Every effort counts, and thanks to all who have offered a helping hand, the finale to the seniors’ high school experience may have a happy ending after all.
