Are You Ready to Take the Plunge for a Unified Cause? BY GRACE PETRARCA
Over the past year, Unified Oakers has been working hard to promote total inclusion in the school and unity within the student body. Currently, we are raising money to support Special Olympics at the upcoming Unified Plunge in March. The plunge is students from Rhode Island's schools and the community getting together to plunge into the ocean to fundraise for Special Olympics. This year half of the money that we raise comes back to the Unified Movement at our school. Our goal is to raise $20,000.

Over the past year, Unified Oakers has been working hard to promote total inclusion in the school and unity within the student body. Currently, we are raising money to support Special Olympics at the upcoming Unified Plunge in March. The plunge is students from Rhode Island’s schools and the community getting together to plunge into the ocean to fundraise for Special Olympics. This year half of the money that we raise comes back to the Unified Movement at our school. Our goal is to raise $20,000.
This year’s plunge will take place at Roger Wheeler Beach in Narragansett, RI on Saturday, March 21st. Registration begins at 10 AM. Special Olympics RI has planned many pre-plunge activities this year such as volleyball, cornhole, etc. We believe in strength in numbers and our goal is to have as many participants as possible. With that said, we are asking everyone to come and support the school even if you do not want to plunge and invite family and friends. Young children will not be allowed to plunge but everyone is welcome to cheer on our school.
If you want to plunge into the ocean, you must raise a minimum of $50. To donate money the participant must create a donation page. To raise money, the donation page can be posted on parent(s) social media, adding the link of the donation page in your social media bio, asking family and friends to donate and upcoming school fundraisers. Only create a donation page if you are serious about raising money for the plunge! You can raise money even if you don’t want to plunge, and you do not have to pay if you just want to go to the beach and cheer on our school.
As stated previously 50% of the money that we raise comes back to our school which helps support the Unified sports of basketball and volleyball, the bimonthly unified social hours and the Unified Club.
For any questions and concerns, Mrs. Hoskins can be contacted via email and we hope to see you at the Unified Polar Plunge!
In order to participate in the plunge, each participant needs to join the Coventry High School team.
