Advice for the Class of 2020 BY NATHAN MACOMBER

Advice for the Class of 2020
BY NATHAN MACOMBER
Hello, Class of 2020! I come to you with another story regarding your senior year. It’s almost here; right around the corner! The last story I wrote for the incoming seniors was on College tips. For my last Entry story, I decided to stick with the theme and give you guys advice on how to have the best senior year ever.
My senior year is sadly coming to a close in the next week or so. And as I look back on this year, I think of all the great memories, friends, and moments that I’ve made. My senior year was honestly the best year ever and I hope the same goes for you next year.
The first thing I’d have to say for going all out your senior year is to get involved (duh)! Now, most of you have been here at CHS for 3 years so you know all that the school has to offer. Hopefully, nothing happens next year with the budget, but we can’t see into the future. Regardless, see if there’s something you might enjoy partaking in. Look into Student Council, a sports team, Anime Club, Dance Team… or The Entry! If you join a new club or rejoin the club you’ve been in before, either way, getting involved is so much fun and you’ll have a great time while doing so. You can make new friends, create memories, and it’ll make your senior year a lot more enjoyable.
There are also non-club activities you can do to. The Hunt, the Homecoming parade, Winter Ball, Spirit Week, Lipsync, so many more! Attending or being apart of these events is an amazing experience. I participated in the Hunt and was in the Homecoming parade this year… and I had a blast. Just experiencing everything for the last time with your class is a really special feeling. Please, don’t miss out! Make sure to find dates for events online.
One of my personal favorite memories this year was helping out backstage at Varsity Revue. I helped out my freshman year, but I didn’t help out my sophomore or junior year, so I thought I’d give it a shot one last time my senior year. And it was so amazing! It brought me back to freshman year so much. I made a few friends during this time and the whole experience was great for me. I’m proud and glad I was able to be apart of the backstage crew one last time.
Another way to have a great senior year is to go to events, sports games, etc. I personally wish I’d gone to more after-school events this year. I went to a few here and there… but I wish I could’ve seen more. Between Football, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball, etc, there are many opportunities to watch with friends and have a good time. It never hurts to cheer on your fellow Oakers either.
All the advice mentioned so far can be used by all grades, so if you have an underclassman friend you think may want to take a look, let them know that it’s here if they want to read.
Lastly, to make your senior year great… do your best in school. If you want to apply to college, make sure to do it within the first ⅔ months so you’re not stressed out about it. Do your homework, study, and maintain good grades. I did really well this year, better than I have in my other 3 years, and my GPA went up quite a bit. If you work hard, results will show.
That’s really all that I have for you. The bottom line is, enjoy every day. Even though your senior year may seem long and tedious, trust me, it goes by fast. Take it all in. Enjoy every dance, every event, every class, every teacher, every friend, and take time for yourself once and awhile. All you can do is take life one day at a time.
With that my friends, from one Oaker to another, I hope you have a great summer and I wish you the best senior year ever! I know you will all do amazing in the coming school year. Continue to make our school proud, which I know you will. You got this. Thank you so much for reading.
