The Unified Oakers have had a productive month as they continued to promote acts of kindness and inclusion, while also emphasizing that true kindness is unconditional.

The Unified Volleyball team concluded their season in the playoffs to the championship but were able to have one last hurrah at a non-league game against Ponagansett to close out the season. Congratulations to the entire team of dedicated faculty, staff, and students who make it all possible, and a special shout out to our dedicated seniors this year: Matthew Sully, Kameron Hargis, Ashton Briggs, Grace Petrarca, Paris Pallardy, Hailey Gabel, Sophia Dottor, and BJ Begones.
On the note of kindness, the Unified Oakers witness, along with the rest of the school, incidences of inappropriate social media use this past month and plan to, with the new year, address how impactful words can be and remind the CHS community what it means to be open-minded, accepting, kind, encouraging and respectful.
This month, students during advisory were asked to create their own snowflake design, which can be seen around the corridor of the cafeterias and front entrance, to remind our community that we are to come together not despite our differences, but because of them. The following poem is hung alongside the snowflakes to the concrete their individual messages:
“Beautiful, beautiful snowflakes, floating down to earth
All created to be unique, each holding significant worth
Just like an intricate snowflake, we come from up above
To bless the world with beauty, to sparkle the world with love
No two of us are alike, we hold our own design
And because we are so different, we get a chance to shine.”
-Mandy Williams
If students did not have the opportunity to create their own snowflakes, they can be made at any time and dropped off at Mrs. Hoskins mailbox in the front office, so that we may continue to spread the message of inclusion.
Also for the month of December, the Unified Oakers planned a cookie decorating activity and Unified Social Hour in a library for all students to enjoy and collaborate in a safe, inclusive environment. Due to the restrictions of COVID, U Social Hours are limited to a first come first serve sign-up basis.
All our information can be found on our Google classroom for upcoming events in the new year. We encourage all of our CHS community to have their voice heard so that the Unified Oakers can promptly be able to respond to the school’s climate and address student concerns. If you are not already in our classroom, the class code is, elp26a4. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Hoskins or the executive board members as we need to hear your voices in order to enact change.
Have a fun and safe winter break, and we will see you next year!
