"Because the musical satirizes the characters and events of high school life, Heathers is a glorious example of what not to do, and maybe a production should be required in every single high school across the country. Perhaps now more than ever before, we need lessons on how to treat people better everywhere!”
This year the drama club’s fall production will be Heathers: The Musical. Remy Thibeault, Stage Manager, gave me a look at what we’re going to be seeing in December. The musical is “based upon the cult film” produced in 1989. Remy describes the female lead as being “lovable and quirky,” and the male as “dark and charismatic.”
As expected from Mr. Wilkinson, this musical will deal with dark themes such as teen suicide, murder, bullying, homophobia and gun violence. Asked about the important themes of the play, Mr. Wilkinson responded passionately.
“Because the musical satirizes the characters and events of high school life, Heathers is a glorious example of what not to do, and maybe a production should be required in every single high school across the country. Perhaps now more than ever before, we need lessons on how to treat people better everywhere!”
Furthermore, Wilkinson claimed that “this show is certainly more engaging than any usual anti-bullying presentation and remarkably well written with its clever, provoking humor and team of one-liners. Both this show and film have major wide-ranging appeal and a cult-like following…hallelujah, because the more young people who experience the essential lesson of “bad behavior gets you nowhere” learned within this story, the better.
Maybe this can serve as one of the small steps needed to help America get out of the plight we currently find ourselves in.”
The musical will include almost all of the entire drama club, and is filled with talent. The Entry urges you to go see what Remy describes as “strong vocals, acting and dancing” on December 7th, 8th and 9th.
