The Coventry High School jazz band and chorus recently participated in the Music in the Parks Music Festival on April 27, 2018. The performances were held at Holyoke High School in Holyoke, Massachusetts while the ceremony was held at Sixth Flags in Agawam, Massachusetts. After performing, students from the schools spent the day at Six Flags Amusement Park awaiting the awards ceremony.

Coventry High School competed as Jazz Ensemble, Concert Chorus, and Select Chorus. Concert Band did not participate since they competed earlier in the month at the RIMEA (Rhode Island Music Education Association) festival. Jazz Ensemble and Concert Chorus received excellent rankings, while Select Chorus received a superior ranking. Coventry also won the ESpirit de corps award, for best behavior and stage presence. Danny Elomma of Coventry’s Jazz Band won Overall Outstanding Soloist for the category.
Four high schools from the East Coast competed, including John J. Senior High School of Hopewell, New York, Chelsea High School of Chelsea, Massachusetts, and Concord Carlisle High School of Concord, Massachusetts.
The annual Music in the Parks lasts from March to June, ranging from one to two day festivals. Festivals are held at various amusement parks throughout the United States and two music adjudicators judge all performance groups.
