Commentary: Does CHS Really like the Chromebook?
Teachers and students both seem to like that there are many helpful apps that can be downloaded to the Chromebook. The Internet is also used extensively to search for tools to use during class such as scientific calculators. Documents can be shared and worked on right in class, which makes group work easier. Even when students are at home, the shared document is still accessible to all members of the group.

Recently, as we all know, CHS introduced a new learning tool to all students and staff: the Chromebook. At the beginning of the school year, everyone was required to learn how to use Chromebooks and to begin to adjust to the new way of learning inside the classroom. For most classes, though, paper and pencil quickly became obsolete as teachers began to request all assignments to be typed.
In an informal survey I conducted, students were asked whether or not they liked Chromebooks. 28 percent of them said they did whereas the other 72 percent said they did not like the new learning tool or aren’t sure how they feel yet.
“Google classroom can be confusing because most of the due dates are incorrect and it is hard to know when assignments are really due,” said one student surveyed. Another student said, “It feels as if we are not truly getting the full learning experience.”
Teachers at the school were also asked their opinion of the Chromebooks. 50 percent of those I asked said that they do like the Chrome books because teaching became easier along with grading and collecting assignments. Multiple teachers felt as though showing electronic presentations and videos can help students because if a student needs to refer back to those resources, he or she can do so.

One obstacle students seem to be facing is printing directly from the Chromebook. Students have been emailing papers and printing from a home computer or using other sources to print.
So far nearly all classes have been using their Chromebooks, including classes like math and English. Of course, there are some classes where the use of Chromebooks does not readily apply, such as gym or drama class.
Chrome books, with this being the first year in use, have their ups and downs but overall the results balance out and later on will be increasingly effective.
