Senior Supper 2019 BY NATHAN MACOMBER
Overall, senior supper was amazing. It made me look back on all 4 years of high school and realize what a relationship I’ve made with a lot of kids. It made me excited for the future and excited for everyone else's future. I know everyone in my class will succeed in wherever life takes them.
SENIOR SUPPER 2019
BY NATHAN MACOMBER
Senior Supper was held on May 29th and, let me tell you, it was actually a lot of fun! Since it was my first time going, along with every other senior, I didn’t know what to expect. Would the games be fun? Would the food be good? Would I be bored? All these questions that I had beforehand were all answered in a good way. The night was so much fun and it was heartwarming to see our class come together and have a blast for one more hooray.
The event was held at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, the same venue as Winter Ball. It was very fancy and elegant inside and out. There were chandeliers, a big patio for pictures, lots of tables, and a big dance floor overlooking the bay. My friends and I actually were the very first ones there, so we got first dibs on the tables. That’s what you get for being half an hour early.
The night started off by everyone arriving and finding seats while talking with friends/teachers. A lot of teachers and staff came to support the senior class, which was great. The patio was a popular spot too. Everyone went outside and took pictures with friends. The weather could’ve been better but the view made up for it.
Then everyone got their cap, gowns, and yearbooks! This was one of the most exciting parts of the evening. The reality of the situation truly set in when you receive your cap and gown. You realize that graduation is literally next week. The yearbooks looked amazing too. You could see everyone at each table looking at their yearbooks in awe trying to find their picture on each page. Great job to the yearbook staff and Mr. Brew for your hard work!
The rest of the evening was where the fun began. The games started almost immediately. The first “challenge” of the night was to try and make a crazy centerpiece out of the things at your table. Kids began stacking up plates, yearbooks, napkins, and even the small butter cups all in a frantic rage to have the craziest centerpiece. The winning table won an Applebee’s gift card. My table didn’t do too well, we’ll just say.
Some other games that were played were a lip sync challenge, eating a donut on a string challenge, runway challenge, marshmallow throwing game, pie eating contest, and my personal favorite, a rap battle! You could feel the positive energy in the room with everyone cheering each other on and laughing their behinds off. It was a lot of fun to watch and it made for a good bonding experience for us all. They also awarded each senior superlative with a prize.
And of course, there was the food. I’ve always heard mixed reviews on the food throughout the years. They gave us, salad, chicken tenders, fries, green beans, carrots, and bread with butter. I personally liked the food and so did everyone else at my table. It was simple but pretty good. Then a small ice cream cake for dessert. There were soda and water available throughout the night as well.
After dinner and the games were over, the rest of the evening was spent dancing! Between Beyoncé and the Cupid Shuffle, everyone was on the dance floor showing off their best moves, including me. It reminded me of Prom but a lot more casual and relaxed. Some kids chose to sign yearbooks during this time or go outside for some more photos, where it was cooler.
And then, just like the evening started, it was over. Everyone began gathering up their stuff, leaving the dance floor, and hugging teachers, a few of which were crying. I don’t blame them, it was sad knowing it was one of our last times together. But I have nothing but positive and amazing memories to look back on with my class, so I was more thankful than sad at that moment.
I decided to interview a couple of people about senior supper. The first person was the senior class advisor, Mr. Leonard. Here is what he had to say:
Q : Why do you think Senior Supper is so special to the seniors?
A : “It is the last time they get to be together as a class in a fun, carefree atmosphere.”
Q : What’s your favorite part of Senior Supper?
A : “The recognition of the superlatives, the different games we play with the Seniors and the faculty. Seeing the students signing yearbooks and getting their caps and gowns.”
Q : What advice do you have for the 2019 seniors as they leave High School?
A : “If you simply be yourself, there are no wrong answers.
Thank you, Mr. Leonard, for all you’ve done for our class! We appreciate you.
The next person that I interviewed was a senior, Miranda Medeiros. Here’s what she thought about the event.
Q : What was your favorite part of Senior Supper?
A : “I loved how the class came together and we mixed friends groups for the night! I hung out with way more people than my usual few friends and everyone was dancing together.”
Q : What do you think makes Senior Supper stand out amongst the other school events?
A : “Getting closer with just your class, not competing against other grades. Just celebrating your last week together.”
Q : What advice do you have for your fellow seniors as they finish high school?
A : Still waiting on this response….
Overall, senior supper was amazing. It made me look back on all 4 years of high school and realize what a relationship I’ve made with a lot of kids. It made me excited for the future and excited for everyone else’s future. I know everyone in my class will succeed in wherever life takes them.
So with that, I want to say thank you to all my fellow seniors for making my four years of high school so memorable. I wish you all the best in your future. Next step: Class day and graduation! Whoo!
