Students at CHS are embracing new friendships through the Best Buddies program. The goal of Best Buddies is to create opportunities for friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
This program promotes friendships between kids with and without, IDD. We focus on breaking through social barriers and providing a unified and inclusive school environment.
“It’s fun to see other kids that you don’t usually get to be with” said David Almeida.
“I love being best buddies with Kenzie! It’s fun, and she is a good friend!” said Abi Magiera.
On Tuesday, October 28, CHS students attended one of the first events of the year with their families. The event was a dinner where we revealed the student’s Best Buddy. The members of the club were able to form connections at this party through socialization, which is a rare act for kids with IDD. They also had the opportunity to paint a pumpkin as a representation of their friendship.
“It is very fun and interesting! I can learn more about friendship” said Sheena Bonneau.
The Best Buddies student board members are: President Jason Hoskins, Vice President Bridget Cronin, Secretaries McKenzie Haynes and Katie Beaudoin, and Treasurer Charleen Theroux. Many other students and teachers from Coventry participated in this successful event.
