The ’80s was a pretty wild time period, what with the hair, the clothes, and the talk, (no offense to those who were there for it), but it certainly did produce some amazing films that still bless our screens to this day. Here are eight of the greatest films hits from the 1980s:
Bored during vacation? Maybe, like me, you just don’t have anyplace to go during February vacation. Well, whatever the reason, here are some blasts from the past that are perfect for a chilly February day snuggled up on the couch.
The ’80s was a pretty wild time period, what with the hair, the clothes, and the talk, (no offense to those who were there for it), but it certainly did produce some amazing films that still bless our screens to this day. Here are eight of the greatest films hits from the 1980s:
Number One: Dirty Dancing
Do you like dancing? Do you like romance? Well here’s a bundle package for you! In this classic film, the main character baby played by Jennifer Grey is one summer away from the peace corps. Hoping for an amazing way to end her youth, she is disappointed when this hope lands her in a resort in Catskills with her parents. Yet there she meets the resort dance instructor, Johnny, played by Patrick Swayze. He enlists her as his new dance partner. With fate playing against them how will Baby get through these obstacles and perform as she wishes? Find out when or if you watch it!
You can find Dirty Dancing on Netflix or buy the DVD version from your local store or Amazon.
Number Two: Labyrinth
Do you like fantasy? Or maybe you just like David Bowie. In this classic, you get both. Sarah was a teenager with a life she wished to follow and a baby brother she wished would simply stop crying. When people say be careful what you wish for, not many listen, and Sarah did not. Her baby brother is kidnapped by Goblins and taken to the Goblin King (David Bowie). Now to get her little brother back, she must brave a dastardly labyrinth with tricks around every corner, and make friends along the way. Watch out Goblin King, she’s rearing for a fight. You can find Labyrinth on your local Amazon and also on Netflix if you want to find out more about Sarah’s interesting journey.
Number Three: The Goonies
In this classic film a group of seven friends, the Inventive Data, the asthmatic Mikey, the athletic Brand, the Jokester Mouth, the foody chunk, the pretty Andy, and the smart Stef, set out to follow a map to One-Eyed Willy’s treasure. On their journey Data, Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Chunk, Andy, and Stef outrun the Fratelli’s, criminals escaping the law as they travel through an articulate system of caves to their possible prize.
You can watch The Goonies on Netflix and off of Amazon.
Number Four: The Lost Boys
Vampires, a pretty girl, gangs, and two teenage brothers new to town? Doesn’t sound like a good mix for this classic movie. In The Lost Boys Michael and Sam, two teenage brothers, move with their mother to a small town in Northern California. One becomes friends with nice ‘normal’ kids, while the angsty Michael falls for Star, a girl who is connected to the leader of a vampire gang. Can Sam and his new friends save Michael from his choices and possibly himself?
You can watch The Lost Boys on Amazon and also Netflix.
Number Five: The Breakfast Club.
Five high school students from different backgrounds have detention together. Well, that sounds interesting. In this classic film five teens, including rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock, receive detention together on Saturday. Each tells their story, causing them to wonder: will high school ever be the same again?
You can watch The Breakfast Club on Netflix and Amazon.
Number Six: Willow
In this classic movie, Willow, a dwarf, must protect a child from an evil queen. Though reluctant, the dwarf goes upon a journey to protect this child he so reluctantly wishes not to. Found by Willow’s children, the baby is adopted into his family, but when a terrifying doglike creature attacks Willows village looking for the baby, Willow seeks the counsel of the village leader and is tasked with the baby’s protection.
You can watch Willow on Amazon and Netflixmovies.com.
Number Seven: Heathers
In this film, the main character Veronica is friends with the popular clique in her school, even though she disagrees with the girls’ behavior. When she and her boyfriend J.D confront Heather Chandler, they accidentally poison her and make it appear like a suicide. Soon Veronica realizes that J.D is purposefully killing people he does not like and must race to stop J.D while she still can.
You can watch Heathers on Netflix and Amazon.
Number Eight: Back To The Future
Finally, we reach number eight. This classic film tells the story of Marty McFly who is thrown back into the ‘50s by his friend Doc Brown’s latest experiment: a time traveling car. Now out of his element, Marty must blend in and try to get back to his own time period, and maybe save someone along his way. While he does so he must make sure his father and mother fall in love, otherwise, he may not even exist.
You can watch Back To The Future on Netflix and Amazon.
