Although the 2016 graduates will be attending prestigious colleges around the country and some studying abroad, the class of 2016 as well as the underclassmen share a familiar home: Coventry High School.
“The Sky’s the Limit for CHS Graduates”
BY Caitlyn Nichols
On June 7, 2016, one could feel the palpable excitement, as red and white gowns, and personalized, unique caps filled the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island. After long processes of applying for scholarships, taking the SAT, stressing over exams, completing capstone and portfolio, and battling senioritis, the talented class of 2016 finally received a formal praise for their achievements and success.
There were plenty of smiles, tears, and hugs as CHS seniors took their first steps into the world as mature adults on Tuesday evening. Family members, students, and teachers applauded the accomplished graduates as they took their seats at the beginning of the ceremony.
Samantha Noonan, the valedictorian, and Hannah Inman, the salutatorian, delivered their eloquent farewell speeches early in the ceremony. The amiable president of the class of 2016, Sabryna Nobrega, reminded the audience, “Once an Oaker, always an Oaker.”
Although the 2016 graduates will be attending prestigious colleges around the country and some studying abroad, the class of 2016 as well as the underclassmen share a familiar home: Coventry High School. Following Mr. Hobin’s speech, the graduates individually walked across the stage, exchanged a friendly handshake with Mr. Hobin, received their diplomas, and warmly hugged Sabryna with open arms at the end of the stage.
The ceremony began at 6:00, and the students belonging to ROTC ended the ceremony around 9:00. Afterwards, the graduates, students, families, and teachers gathered outside of the Ryan Center to congratulate members of the class of 2016 and to take photos.
Along with unlimited potentials, all of the Coventry graduates have bright, positive, and successful futures awaiting them. As an incoming senior, I am looking forward to watching their successes and hearing about their new experiences, next year at college.
