The Entry Joins the 21st Century
“Having a newspaper available on the chromebook is better than a paper copy because having a paper copy is just another thing to carry around. The school needs to start encouraging going paperless and this is a good way, plus almost everything we do is online now so it just makes sense.”
BY LISSY SHORTALL
The CHS newspaper is the voice of the students, allowing us to be heard on issues that are related to life in our school. Students should weigh in more on issues that affect our education and planning for the future. A good example of a school decision that was made that affects students greatly is the recent purchase and distribution of Chromebooks to every student. As a student, do you feel you had a voice in this initiative?
Gone are the days when people had to wait for the latest edition of the paper to know what is going on in the world as it was in 1969 when man first walked on the moon.
With all of the new advancements with technology at CHS, our school paper is now going digital and will be updated and distributed more frequently online as opposed to producing paper copies.
Some people would argue that efforts to make everything digital and internet friendly is a good change. “Having a newspaper available on the chromebook is better than a paper copy because having a paper copy is just another thing to carry around. The school needs to start encouraging going paperless and this is a good way, plus almost everything we do is online now so it just makes sense.”
Many CHS students agree with this statement and feel it’s a much better alternative to paper because it can’t be destroyed, is easily accessible, is easily distributed, and cannot be lost. On the other hand, some would agree to disagree with the newspaper being available only on the internet. Skeptics argue that paper copies of the newspaper are much easier to read and that they are the way newspapers started and should stay that way.
No matter what your point of view or opinion on the topic of the newspaper being strictly digital or strictly paper may be, there is no doubt about it that change is happening with the use of technology at CHS and in schools across the nation.
