“I almost cried tears of joy when the Patriots scored the winning touchdown! That was easily one of the best days of my life!” said one CHS student while another stated that he was not a Patriots fan yet “It was a great comeback. Even though I am not a Patriots fan, it still was one of the most entertaining.”
THE AMAZING PATRIOTS COMEBACK INSPIRED CHS FANS

Super Bowl Sunday is well known as one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Almost every television in America is tuned in to this specific game. The most recent Super Bowl, Super Bowl LI, occurred on February 5th, 2017 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The matchup for Super Bowl LI was between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots. The Patriots entering this game with sixteen wins and two losses while the Falcons with only thirteen wins, five losses. For the Patriots, making it to the Super Bowl was always very promising with a total of six trips to the Super Bowl, four of those being victories.
Under the leadership of Tom Brady and Head Coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots always remained one of the top teams in the nation nearly every season. And even though the Patriots have four Super Bowl victories many fans were itching to see Tom Brady raise the Lombardi trophy once more.
Statistically this game seemed like it would be in favor for the New England Patriots. However in the first half of play it was anything but winning for the Patriots as they trailed 21-3. Everyone who was watching the game could not believe that the Atlanta Falcons were in complete control of this game. A student had CHS had said to me; “Most of my family had went to bed before halftime, but I continued to watch, no matter the circumstances I still believed in my team.”. At the start of the second half, the Patriots gained some momentum with a touchdown by running back James White, making the score 28-12. That momentum carried onto the fourth quarter as the Patriots defense managed to convert a turnover and give Tom Brady and the offense the ball back. With just a little under six minutes in the game, Tom Brady completed a pass to Danny Amendola for a six yard touchdown. The score was 20-28 with only six minutes left of play, and Mat Ryan and the Falcons would try and seal the victory with a drive that would end the game and not allow the Patriots offense to get the ball back. But the Patriots defense prevailed and forced the Falcons to punt the football. Only 3:30 in the game and on their own nine yard line, the Patriots needed a touchdown and a two point conversion to bring this game into overtime. Tom Brady drove the team down the entire field and ended the drive with a rushing touchdown by James White in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Fans could not believe that the Patriots had just pulled off the impossible. The game would go into overtime. The Patriots had all the momentum having scored twenty-five unanswered points. To start overtime, the Patriots won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. Just like the previous drive, the Patriots began their drive in their own territory and drove down the field to win the game from a rushing touchdown by James White which would be his third total touchdown. The New England Patriots were Super Bowl Champions.
I surveyed numerous students at CHS for their reactions and emotions to this year’s Super Bowl. One student responded “I almost cried tears of joy when the Patriots scored the winning touchdown! That was easily one of the best days of my life!”. I had asked another student who stated that he was not a Patriots fan responded with “It was a great comeback, even though I am not a Patriots fan, it still was one of the most entertaining.”
It was clear that every Patriots fan in the school was ecstatic that their team won the Super Bowl. Another student had said to me “No other team could have pulled that comeback off other than the New England Patriots. My best moment of the game was seeing Goodell handover the Lombardi Trophy to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
