Helpful Tips to Prepare for Final Exams By Nathan Macomber
When preparing to study, plan out how you want to approach studying. You can make flashcards on Spanish vocab for a language final, review quizzes and tests and refresh your memory on the different formulas for the math final, and even reread the chapter on WWII for the history final.
It’s coming close to that time of year again. I’m talking about finals! Some of you may be letting out a sigh while reading that word, but I assure you, finals aren’t as bad as they appear. I’ll be telling you some tips/tricks on how you can prepare for your exams. Hopefully, using these tips will help you feel more prepared and confident for exams. Let’s get started, shall we!
One thing that is important to mention before the studying tips, is that you might not need to take some of your finals. You need a 93 (A) average in order to be exempt from a final. After determining which finals you need to take, start studying a couple of weeks in advance. If your English exam is on June 17th, start studying on June 3rd, which is two weeks in advance. When it comes time to start studying, do so wherever you feel most comfortable. This can be in your room, at the kitchen table, or even on your deck in the fresh air; just make sure your area is free of any distractions. Some distractions that you might want to remove from your area of study include phones, TVs, and computers. You can say to yourself, “Okay, I am going to study for two hours, and then I can relax on my phone/computer for 20 minutes.” This way you have something to look forward to, which will motivate you to study.
You could even study with a friend or two. Studying with classmates can help you to understand the material more. If you have a question you are stuck on, your friend might know the answer. You could even meet up with them at a local coffee shop in town (hint, hint – Bean Barn!), and study there. If you have a question on something that no one seems to know, ask the teacher before the exam, or send them a quick email.
When preparing to study, plan out how you want to approach studying. You can make flashcards on Spanish vocab for a language final, review quizzes and tests and refresh your memory on the different formulas for the math final, and even reread the chapter on WWII for the history final. Depending on the class and the materials you are given, you can plan which study method will help you best understand the material. Educational videos are also an option. If you have an exam on converting grams to moles in Chemistry, search that topic on Youtube. Your knowledge on the topic should resurface in no time.
Along with all these tips, remember above all, don’t stress out. When you study, plan on taking many breaks (or even having some study free days) and make sure you get enough sleep. With that being said, I wish you all good luck on your exams! You will do fantastic, I know you will! Just stay positive, calm, and be confident that you will pass!
