Stitch It Up Club Makes CHS a Warmer Place
BY GRACE PETRARCA
Are you looking for a new winter hat or a new winter scarf? Luckily for you, at CHS you can purchase handmade hats and scarves made by students just like yourselves. If you are looking for that perfect holiday gift or something to keep you warm stop by room 508 to get your new winter attire.
The club that creates these wonderful accessories is the Stitch It Up Club, run by Ms. Plante. The Stitch It Up Club was started only about four years ago. All the proceeds and the sales go right back into the club so students can continue to make the fabulous winter accessories. However, in addition to typical winter accessories scrunchies, small purses and other knitted Creations are available.
This year, they are over 40 students involved in this club, which counts as community service hours for the National Honor Society, or any other clubs/activities that students need hours for. The services hours apply to juniors and seniors and for further details contact Ms. Plante. This is a helpful tip for those looking for community service hours. The club meets after school on Thursdays from 2-3 October to January. However, not all students have to go to the meetings, they can knit, crochet, or loom at home and bring them to school.
This year, there’s a raffle for a hand-crocheted afghan approximately 54×64 inches. tickets are $2 or 3/$5 and the raffle will end on 12/13. Tickets can be purchased in room 508. This blanket is beautifully stitched with ornate squares and colors, but can still keep you warm. I would recommend purchasing a raffle ticket, as it would be such a thoughtful gift for someone in your family this holiday season. Additional items that would be a wonderful holiday gift include hats scarves and mittens for $8 each or two for $5. Headbands scrunchies or eyeglass/ pencil cases for $3 or 2 for $5.
The club might seem intimidating for some like me as I do not have any experience with knitting, crocheting, or looming, but no prior experience is needed as the teachers will be able to help you out along the way and you can still be a part of the Stitch It Up Club.
