Many students are excited about this idea, and eager to involve other classes. Not only is this project great for students who are more hands on, but it also keeps the information regarding sine waves fresh in our minds.
SINE WAVE MURAL PROJECT: WHERE MATH MEETS ART
BY RITA STUBBS
Mr. Narkiewicz has recently come up with a great way to make math fun, and keep all of his students engaged. Before April break, Mr. Narkiewicz presented the idea of making a new mural in the school. Each year, the seniors create a mural for their class, but Narkiewicz was thinking of something different. This project would not only involve his seniors, but also the juniors in his class.
The back wall in the 800’s wing looks a little barren. Since most of the classrooms in the area are for math, Mr. Narkiewicz picked this location for his project. On the wall, he plans for his trigonometry students to create a sine wave, with different amplitudes and wavelengths.
Just having a sine wave painted on the wall seems a little boring, however, so Mr. Narkiewicz suggests something more. “Wouldn’t it be cool if we made it centered around Rhode Island?” he asked. “We are the Ocean State …” His idea would feature lighthouses and other items that make Rhode Island unique.
Many students are excited about this idea, and eager to involve other classes. Not only is this project great for students who are more hands on, but it also keeps the information regarding sine waves fresh in our minds.
Stay tuned to find out where this idea goes!
