SENIORS LIP SYNC WIN A PRECURSOR TO SPIRIT WEEK DOMINANCE?
By Rita Stubbs
Instead of being held during Spirit Week, Lip Sync 2017 was instead held on February 17th. In between each classes’ performance, mini games were played. These not only created some more competition between each class, but were lots of fun. The acts themselves were phenomenal and it was obvious every class put lots of work into their performances.
The seniors took top honors at the lip sync, making many wonder if this win was a precursor to seniors winning Spirit Week 2017. The “Born in the USA” medley was a tour de force of music and performances. Many students agree that the judges got it right with the contest.
The night started off with a great solo performance by freshman Glenn Gustafson. The entire performance was centered around Justin Timberlake’s hits and made the entire auditorium want to sing along. Some of their songs included Sexyback, Mirrors and Can’t Stop the Feeling. According to a freshman, a senior stated that their performance could have used some improvement, as all performances can, and that they are on the road to performing a great show as seniors.
Nick Wallbank starred as many different characters in the junior solo performance. The theme was “Movies in the Morning.” The performance was stellar and included many movies that everyone has seen before such as Napoleon Dynamite. Nick says, “I enjoyed doing the solo performance because it was something I had never done before.”
The freshman group was a “Tribute to the Greats.” These included the Harlem Shake, the Whip and the Nae Nae and Single Ladies. Many of these were songs we had all forgotten about from years in the past and made the crowd laugh.
Many hit TV shows were referenced in the junior’s group performance. That 70’s Show, the Addams Family and Phineas and Ferb were just a few. Not only could the crowd sing along with these classic theme songs, but were also able to laugh at some of the funny costumes and props utilized by the class.
Overall, the seniors won, but all the classes had a good time and that’s all that matters.
