After hours of entertainment, the senior class congregated on the dance floor and continued to dance the night away to our favorite songs. In that moment, I realized Dr. Seuss has perfectly described my sentiments with words when he said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
SENIOR SUPPER 2017: Making Memories to Last a Lifetime
BY CAITLYN NICHOLS
There is something magical about the last weeks of senior year in high school; the soon-to-be graduating class, for the last few times, walks the halls that we have for so long recognized as our second home, and and we come together as our own unique family before we embark on separate journeys. While this all seems too sudden, there is nothing else that we can do besides embrace every moment that we have left.
Before we walk across the stage on June 7th, Coventry High School’s annual senior supper allowed all of us to celebrate our last four years together as a class for the last time before graduation. Quidnessett Country Club accommodated the event and offered a glorious view of the Narragansett Bay – the ideal scenery for an Instagram picture with friends. The event began at six o’clock with the distribution of caps and gowns. Anxious to graduate, students quickly sported their red and white caps and gowns. Thanks to the yearbook committee, students received their meticulous yearbooks and continued the tradition of signing one another’s for the last time.
Haley Walker, the president of the class of 2017, announced that the first event of the evening consisted of using a limited number of materials to craft a centerpiece in seven minutes. Using only solo cups, pom poms, and straws, each group at the tables participated in the contest, but Ainsley Masseur’s table were crowned as the winners.
People who were voted by their senior classmates for superlatives received a certificate along with a gift to fit their superlative. After a sit-down dinner with a group of friends, Haley Walker led her class in several engaging contests including a rap and a lip sync battle, a strut and donut eating competition, musical chairs, chubby bunny, a munchkin toss, a pie eating contest, and a contest in which female contestants had to dress in football attire as quickly as possible.
The top five students in the class, Jason Hoskins, Sienna McCulley, Victoria Kaplun/Lynn Geyer, Stephanie Dowling, and Nick Gessner participated in a donut eating contest. Without using their hands, the top five were challenged to eat a donut hanging from a string, and Jason Hoskins proved to be the ultimate donut-eater.
Iyannah Johnson took center stage and won the applause of her audience with her creative dance to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.” Eager to showcase her pie eating skills, Ainsley Masseur, the participant in the spirit week pie eating contest, devoured it and remains undefeated.
