Reading My Way through the CHS Library’s “Thrills, Chills, and Alien Abductions” List BY ISABELLA CARLOW
I was super lucky to happen to come across this book, and I really hope the next one I review will be just as good, if not better! Next month, my book review will be on Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White, be sure to check out that one as well!
In the beginning of November, a list of books was sent out through an email; Thrills, Chills, and Alien Abductions, and all of the books can be found in the school library. Once I saw it, I decided I wanted to do a book review on some of the books from the list that I found interesting, Wilder Girls by Rory Power, and Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. I didn’t really pick these books for any reason in particular, except for that they were just the ones that stood out to me the most from the list. This month I’ll be reviewing the first book I mentioned, Wilder Girls.
The basic plot of the book is that a small island with an all girls school on it becomes infected with a new disease, not only affecting the wildlife on the island, but also the girls themselves. They all develop strange symptoms and side effects from the disease, also known as the Tox. Once the Navy and the CDC discover this, they quarantine them on the island, and promise help and a cure for the Tox. One day one of the girls goes missing, which prompts her friends to go looking for her, and then leads to secrets about the island and its disease to be revealed.
Now on to the actual book review. This book was even better than I expected, and it was amazing considering that this was the author’s first book she has written! Although the story was kind of slow at the beginning, it was worth it once I got close to the end. Just the plot of the book itself was pretty unique, and you’ll definitely like it if you’re into horror or mystery books, since it’s basically a mix of the two. There were a lot of twists at the end, which really finished off the book, and made all the bits of information thrown in throughout the book piece together and make sense. It didn’t feel like there was much closure at the end of the book and it ended at a kind of random place though, which was a little annoying. Even so, I still loved this book and definitely recommend it!
Overall, I had a good time reading this one, and I’ll for sure look into other books this author has written. I was super lucky to happen to come across this book, and I really hope the next one I review will be just as good, if not better! Next month, my book review will be on Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White, be sure to check out that one as well!
