CHS is excited to welcome our new student resource officer, Officer Domenic J. Guglielmo. He has become very close with many students, especially the underclassmen who were at ASFMS for the last two years, where he worked previously.
Though excited to be here, Officer Guglielmo says that transitioning to a high school environment is challenging because “students begin facing adult issues.”
For many students he feels as though he has become a mentor or counselor rather than just a disciplinary figure, but he is happy and proud to take on this role. His main goal is to be seen as approachable by students.
While getting to know students is an important part of Officer Guglielmo’s goal, he also is obviously very concerned with keeping the school safe. His experience in safety extends farther than his already impressive nine years of experience as a police officer. Officer Guglielmo also served in the National Guard for thirteen years, where he was deployed to areas such as Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
Based on this experience, he believes that keeping the school safe depends on active participation from all the students and teachers. Officer Guglielmo sees students as the first line of defense. If we see anything suspicious, it should be reported. It’s also important for students to follow all basic safety procedures such as keeping the exterior doors closed and locked.
By working together, the school can be a safe environment for all. Officer Guglielmo hopes to create a supportive environment for everyone at CHS.
