Led by Coach McKanna the Unified Basketball team successfully completed their campaign for a perfect season, defeating Hope High School on a neutral floor at LaSalle Academy to win the RIIL DI Unified Basketball Championship.
Led by veteran Cole Campbell with 13 points on clutch play in the lane, Campbell also had a huge 3. Tommy O’Brian and Robbie Kmon scored and played tenacious defense against the opponent’s well-schooled offense. Andrew Rivard hit a critical 3 mid way through the second half that allowed the U to begin to get some separation, and the team never looked back.
Alex Lugo rounded out the scoring for the Coventry squad. Josh Howard, McKenzie Perierra, and Steven Byrne and Sheena “Buckets” Bonneau pitched in important minutes, and they rest of the team Owen Ross, Brian Soucy, and Zack “The Z-man” Pelletier kept the fire alive from the sideline.
Special thanks to partners Gian Avedesian, Danny Felkel, Amanda Donahue, Tori McGovern, Kim Godin, and Amanda Benardi, as well as PE intern extraordinaire Katie Beaudoin. Thanks to all of the administration, faculty, students, friends and family who came out to support the U, and extra special thanks to Mr. Jones for his constant support and for “the wave.”
