Introducing CHS’s Newest Assistant Principal
BY ELLA SHOESMITH
Have you met the newest CHS Assistant Principal yet? Her name is Azadeh Noorbaloochi and she is working mainly with grade nine students in her first year here at CHS. Recently, the Entry sat down with our new A.P. to find out about her background and her plans for her work at CHS.
Our new A.P. grew up in a another country. Mrs. Noorbaloochi was born in Iowa, then moved to Iran three years later. Moving a total of 19 times with her family due to her father’s job, there were changes all around to which she had to adapt including language and culture. But, now it is her turn to make the changes.
After being a math teacher for eight years at Chariho High School, Mrs. Noorbaloochi then became a STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) specialist and was put into a leadership position. From there she discovered her real passion in life: to make a change in the world.
When it comes to her educational philosophy, Mrs. Noorbaloochi strives for equity. To describe her approach, she uses an analogy: “I want to give every student a pair of shoes, but I’m the type of person to make sure every pair of shoes fits the student they are given to.” Mrs. Noorbaloochi stands for building relationships with students, getting to know us as individuals, and helping us to find success here and in life after CHS.
But what are her plans for changing CHS?
She wants to research ideas for positive behavior interventions such as the use of the courtyards as an area to study or eat lunch. She has plans of bettering the school’s atmosphere by using positive reinforcement rather than negative. Also, she wants to make the school easier to navigate for incoming freshmen.
Usually, as assistant principal, Mrs. Noorbaloochi deals with disciplining students. Cutting class is a huge issue that she deals with on a daily basis. School fights and being late to class are also concerns for her. Even though she deals with these issues, she still wants to make a positive change at CHS to reduce the amount of discipline issues.
She finds that the most challenging part of the job is staying objective in tough situations. Wanting the best for each student, it is challenging to watch a student make a bad decision.
A very passionate woman with a huge heart, Mrs. Noorbaloochi has been waiting for a chance to make a difference. Now she has over 1600 students and 180 teachers that she can positively influence on a daily basis.
Don’t be afraid to approach our new assistant principal and talk to her because she wants to hear from you and needs our help to make CHS a great place to learn. Welcome to CHS, Mrs. Noorbaloochi!
Mrs. Noorbaloochi is married with two children who inspire her everyday.
