Spirit Week is approaching fast at Coventry High School! From March 9th to the 13th, all four grade levels will be competing to earn points to try and be this year’s champions. All week long, students are encouraged to wear clothes to match that day’s specific theme. At the start of the day, everybody must report to their advisory room, where their outfits will be examined by judges and earn points for their grades.
Keep in mind, all outfits must be school appropriate and are subject to the same dress-code guidelines as any normal school day. If you are unsure about whether something may or may not be allowed, don’t hesitate to contact school administrators using the school website: https://sites.google.com/a/coventryschools.net/coventryhsri/.
Monday: Pajama Day
To kick off the week in the most comfortable way possible, students will be granted points for wearing pajamas to school. Other accessories, such as blankets and stuffed animals, will also be assigned point values.
Tuesday: Sports Day
For Sports Day, points will be awarded for any and all sports-related clothing, including jerseys, hats, t-shirts, etc.. Accessories may be allowed, but certain equipment, such as bats, sticks, and helmets, are not permitted.
Wednesday: Luau Day
An exotic addition to the Spirit Week lineup, Luau Day awards points for any Hawaiian-themed clothing and accessories.
Thursday: Red & White Day
Show your Oaker pride on this day by donning all of your red and white Coventry attire!
Friday: Color Wars
To finish off the week, all grade levels will have their last choice to earn outfit points for wearing their assigned colors, listed below. For every article of clothing that meets one of the colors, you can earn points. If you go all out, you could rake in a massive point total, and perhaps help carry your grade to victory.
- Freshmen: Gray and Purple
- Sophomores: Pink and Blue
- Juniors: Green and Yellow
- Seniors: Orange and Black
There’s more! After each school day (excluding the early release day on Tuesday the 10th), there will be exciting competitions held between grade levels. Winners will earn massive point values for their grades, so all are encouraged to participate or show their support for their classmates.
Monday: Ping Pong
A bracket-style tournament, each grade level will put forth their top players to compete and earn the top spot as the CHS ping pong champions.
*No after-school activity on Tuesday due to early release*
Wednesday: Class Feud
Modeled after the hit game show Family Feud, students compete to answer questions and guess the top responses to different surveys.
Thursday: Dance Competition
Before spirit week begins, each grade level has already begun rehearsing their long-awaited dances, which they will perform live in hopes of impressing the judges. Dances usually consist of several sections, and multiple different songs playing to create an exciting and enjoyable experience to watch and participate in.
Friday: Almost Anything Goes
Everything has been leading up to this! The grand finale of spirit week, Almost Anything Goes is one of the biggest and most exciting events of the entire school year. It consists of several different contests, such as obstacle courses, potato sack races, water balloon tosses, and more, all of which students compete in to earn points. At the conclusion of Almost Anything Goes, point totals are announced, and the year’s winners are crowned as spirit week champions!
Stay tuned to the morning announcements to hear about any additional information regarding spirit week and the different events taking place. More details will be made available as spirit week draws closer.
