Fun Things to Do Over Spring Vacation BY EMMA MALARDO
Truthfully, no single list could hold the vast amount of opportunities here in our state to make this spring break the best one yet, but these are just a really great few to consider! For those like me who have birthdays that typically fall over spring break especially, make up for it by celebrating early and looking into one of these super fun events to cheer up.
As we bid our winter blues farewell, we open our arms to the grace of spring. Spring has a lot to offer here in Rhode Island, and with spring break right around the corner, these are just a few fun-filled and budget-friendly events worth looking into these upcoming weeks.
There’s simply no better way to start off the season of spring than a trip to Wicked Tulip Flower Farm in Exeter. Running from April 5th to April 26th, Wicked Tulip Flower Farm allows you to walk through their tulip fields and even bring your own bouquet of them home, fresh-picked and all. You can visit their website to purchase tickets, and as someone who has previously visited myself, I highly recommend it!
Next, we have nature drawing classes at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol! These classes vary and run from April 6th to the end of June, so if you don’t have a chance to join in on the fun over break, there are plenty of opportunities to do so later on in the season. Anyone despite their level of artistic ability or experience is welcome to register, and there’s nothing quite as beautiful as Blithewold’s gardens.
For astronomy lovers, the Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center in Charlestown is the place to be! Every Friday evening, as long as the weather permits it, they open their observatory, sky theatre, and telescopes to offer views of the cosmos. The night skies over Ninigret Park are particularly beautiful and well worth the trip. The observatory opens at 7:00 p.m., stays open late into the night, and closes once the sky is no longer observable. The only thing better than the views is the unbeatable price, so if you’re looking for a rich experience for a low cost, definitely consider checking out the Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center.
Another lovely option to consider are goat hikes at Simmons Farm in Middletown. There is nothing as wholesome as walking your own goat on a leash through nature, and that’s what makes Simmons Farm so amazing! The hikes last around two hours, and within that time, you’ll have the chance to feed the goats, admire the views of the historical farm, and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or lemonade depending on the season. These goat hikes recur all throughout the week, and you can register right online if interested!
