Although new to some, a plethora of students watch the Thanksgiving parade as a kick off to the festivities every year. For example, Cassie Capezza, said she used to watch it all the time when she was little with her family, and although some may have grown out of the habit, she still certainly enjoys getting to see what is to come from time to time. Whereas in other cases, such as Maddy Catlow’s, she continues to watch it year after year as a tradition on Thanksgiving Day.

2016 marks the 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Taking place in New York City it has become that of a tradition among many families. The parade official and executive producer Amy Kule continues to put on a fabulous show year after year, with some of the classic elements including the balloons such as pikachu, hello kitty, and the float of santa’s sleigh. The parade is a showstopping event with balloons, marching bands, and performers to highlight recent and new movies or shows while also keeping classics and beginning to bring out the Christmas spirit in all of us.
Although new to some, a plethora of students watch the parade as a kick off to the festivities every year.
The official lineup that took place on November 24th included especially the Felix the Cat balloon replica, due to it being the first character balloon ever entered in the parade. Following its company was, Ronald Mcdonald, Thomas the Train, Elf of the Shelf, Angry Bird’s Red, and Dreamworks Trolls to name a few. Performances were overloaded with the musical talents of groups and artists such as, Grace Vanderwaal (recent winner of America’s got Talent), Daya and Tony Bennett.
Some less well known performers get to also have a day in the spotlight, not limited to only music. With dancing teams, cheer, and even including 1,000 clowns in the spectacular. But what many kids consider the highlight of the experience is the end were the finale features the star of the show Santa Claus. Ending with Macy’s giving a big thank you and wishing everyone a happy holidays and Merry Christmas.
Hopefully this inspired you to watch the event unfold next year, which is bound to have bigger and better displays to showcase.
