As sophomores and juniors at CHS know well, the PSAT and SAT are on their way! On Tuesday, April 9, every tenth and eleventh grader in RI will be taking the PSAT or SAT as part of their annual state testing. For sophomores, the test is simply practice for the real thing next year, so there’s less pressure. For juniors though, the SAT is a big deal, and it can feel overwhelmingly stressful and a bit scary. But worry not! Preparation should have you feeling a bit less stressed!

CHS Juniors and Sophomores Are Ready for SAT/PSAT on April 9th BY NATHALIE FORTIER
As sophomores and juniors at CHS know well, the PSAT and SAT are on their way! On Tuesday, April 9, every tenth and eleventh grader in RI will be taking the PSAT or SAT as part of their annual state testing. For sophomores, the test is simply practice for the “real thing” next year, so there’s less pressure. For juniors though, the SAT is a big deal, and it can feel overwhelmingly stressful and a bit scary. But worry not! Preparation should have you feeling a bit less stressed!
If you’re a junior, you have probably been practicing for the SAT for months. The administration has built a playlist of SAT practice activities on Khan Academy to be completed in the months leading up to the test. The activities allow students to see the structure of and similar questions that they may see on the test, along with helpful strategies to earn the highest score possible. Khan Academy allows users to link their College Board account to personalize their practice questions based on their PSAT scores. Students who complete the SAT playlist will be eligible for early release on May 10, the day of prom.
There have also been three practice exams on March 9th, 16th, and 30th for students to get a feel for the testing environment and become more comfortable with the SAT format. Most people’s SAT scores improve every time they take the test, so these practice exams will help you to increase your scores before they are sent to colleges. Students can see their scores on the practice exams right away using the scanner feature on the app Daily Practice for the New SAT. The app allows you to answer daily practice questions and score other practice tests to see your improvement.
There are plenty of ways to help you prepare for the SAT, and even if it may seem like the most important test of your life, there’s no need to stress. Doing practice questions on sites like Khan Academy and apps like Daily Practice for the SAT are an easy way to help you prepare for the real thing! We are ready for April 9th!
