CHS in the Spirit of Giving

It’s that time of year again, everyone is running around trying to find the perfect gift. In all the hustle is can be easy to forget the most important thing about the holidays, giving back to others. Lucky for students at CHS there are a number of ways that we can give to the needy this year. Here is a brief overview of the programs:
- For teachers, the Gingerbread express is an additional option where they can anonymously send gifts to students in need in the form of gift cards. Every year in the office, gingerbread men are set up to represent students in need. Teachers select one or often multiple gingerbread men and purchase the gift card amount that has been written on the front.
- The annual toy drive is a way for students to help needy families this holiday season, all toys collected at the high school are donated to kids through toys for tots. Having personally volunteered at a toys for tots center, this one is truly something special. All the toys are hand selected by volunteers based on a brief description of each child.
- The coat drive is the easiest way to help out those in need this year as you can easily just drop off your old coats. These coats often don’t fit anymore and would end up in the trash otherwise.
- Finally, this year the national honor society has the program seniors for seniors. The program focuses on seniors, the students, donating to help seniors, as in the elderly. Donations were taken from honor society members and were then wrapped and will be distributed to Senior homes.
Of course any way you can help those in need this holiday season helps to make the world a better place. If you are unable to donate for any reason, volunteering with any of these programs is the next best thing. They all require volunteers in order to run smoothly, so there is always a way to help out. As always don’t forget to spend time with your family and friend and really this holiday season. Happy Holidays!
