This Year’s CHS Homecoming Parade Highlighted Oaker Inclusive Spirit

This year’s homecoming parade was definitely one for the books! This year was truly the year for inclusivity in all aspects of the day. The theme for this year’s parade was “musicals” to correspond with the masquerade ball themed dance. The inclusivity starts with the seniors, whose float was Grease. They included the freshmen who weren’t going to get their own float due to not having an advisor. It was a really mature step for the seniors to get them involved and excited.
The juniors chose The Wizard of Oz and the Sophomores had Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The drama club didn’t have a full float but they were full of spirit walking with the theme of our winter musical Pippin (being performed December 12,13, and 14). The last float was Student Council with Beauty and the Beast.
The parade doesn’t stop there though, the CHS marching band and JROTC also had very big roles in the parade by leading the parade. Right after them was the re-energized football team and cheerleaders full of excitement to play and cheer during the homecoming game.
In another inclusivity effort this year, we also welcomed elementary schoolers from Blackrock, Tiogue, Hopkins Hill, and Western to participate. This gave them a little glimpse of what they will be able to participate in when they come to high school many years down the line.
The parade had perfect weather and a perfect crowd to support every grade and clubs hard work on the floats!
