The floats looked great, and the whole parade itself was well put together and entertaining. Both teachers and students worked hard to organize this event and make it possible. From the people marching in the parade to the police officers blocking off roads, the town worked together to hold this event. Overall, the parade was a success as it brought the community closer and reminded us of the importance of having fun.
On Saturday, October 22, the homecoming parade took place at CHS. This year, the parade theme was music genres, and each grade level plus student council chose a genre and made a float for it. The student council theme was disco, Freshmen were rap, Sophomores were pop, Juniors were country, and the Seniors were rock. The event went from Paine Field to the high school, and many people in the town came to see it. In the parade, there were floats for each grade level, as well as floats for different clubs, such as JROTC, The Recycling Club, Unified Oakers, The Drama Club, and others. Students in each grade level and student council dressed up and participated in the parade, and kids from the Coventry elementary schools marched in the parade too.
Out of all the floats, I personally liked the seniors’ float the best; I like rock music and their float was pretty intricate and well designed, and their costumes were great and really added the finishing touch to their float. I also feel like they were the most enthusiastic and looked like they were having fun, which was nice to see. The members of the student council had really accurate costumes for their theme and I almost felt as if I was in the 70s! Another float that stood out to me was the junior’s country float. The costumes were pretty standard, but they looked like they were having a good time, and their float represented their theme. The freshman and sophomore floats were also cool, and you could tell a good amount of work was put into recreating their themes!
