Dungeons & Dragons is an extremely inclusive game, and the D&D club at our school is the same. Club leader Savannah Smith said, “It's an honor to be with these amazing people, and honestly amazing to me how I started a club here at our school. I want to thank all of the lovely people that joined and are dedicating themselves!”

Sophomore Savanah Smith decided recently to revive a Dungeons & Dragons club at CHS. Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game that was created by American game designers Ernest Gary Gygax and David Arneson in 1974. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world in which multiple players form a group called a party that is led through an adventure by the Dungeon Master or DM. The Dungeon Master makes up story events or chooses them from a published adventure or campaign. The players respond to the events in different manners creating a unique game experience.
Dungeons & Dragons is an extremely inclusive game, and the D&D club at our school is the same. Club leader Savannah Smith said, “It’s an honor to be with these amazing people, and honestly amazing to me how I started a club here at our school. I want to thank all of the lovely people that joined and are dedicating themselves!”
Club member Christiania Votta said, “It’s an amazing club and gives others and myself an opportunity to meet new people and have fun.”
As a member of this club myself, I can say that this club has already given me a great opportunity to make new friends and have fun.
Club member Hazel Duross said that, “When you make a character it’s like the character is a part of you in a way”. By creating a character, it’s like creating an extension of yourself, immersing yourself in the game.
The club meets every Tuesday in room 118 until 4:30. Mrs. Ross is the club advisor. The club leader/ assistant Dungeon Master Savanah Smith, and the Dungeon Master Jonathan “Jon” VanLuven. The club accepts any new members even with no prior Dungeons & Dragons experience. Please join us for some fantastical fun.
In the game, players create their own characters by first choosing a race, such as human, elf, dwarf, halfling, dragonborn, ect. They then choose a class, ex. Fighter, Rouge, Wizard, Bard, Sorcerer, Druid, Cleric, ect. They then choose skills for their characters such as different spells, and they assign a small number of points to different attributes of their characters to determine how effective that character is in performing various actions. The game is played with seven dice; d4, d6, d8, d10, d100, d12, and d20. Players roll dice in order to determine the effectiveness of their actions, and in combat they roll to determine if they can hit the creature they are attacking and for the damage that creature will take.
If this sounds like fun, join us on Tuesdays!
