After many weeks of rehearsal, the cast and crew of CHS Drama’s Catch Me If You Can continues to rehearse and prepare for their upcoming show on December 12 though December 14. The musical is based on a true story, and the 2002 movie of the same name. It follows the character Frank Abagnale Jr, who becomes rich after running away from home and learning how to forge checks, posing as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer while being pursued by the authorities. CHS drama has worked hard to make this show a success.
“We’ve made a huge amount of progress,” said Mrs. StSauveur, one of the directors. “We’ve gone from nothing… to this,” she added, as a scene was being played out during rehearsal.
The cast, ranging from freshmen to seniors, has definitely been working hard, and having a lot of fun doing so. Jarrett Cole, a senior who plays Carl Hanratty in the show says, “It’s been a blast, and I’m really excited to put it in front of an audience. It’ll be awesome to show them what we’ve been working on for the past three months.”
“Being onstage is such a unique experience,” Kaylee Gault commented. “Being able to be someone else and entertain an audience… It’s great.”
Alice Colby, the show’s stage manager, says, “One of the most exciting parts of a show is meeting all the new people and adapting to the type of cast they are.” About this particular cast she says, “They work well together, and everyone has a job that they’re doing,” as actors practiced lines backstage and the stage crew stood, ready for action, as a scene was coming to a close.
The cast of Catch Me If You Can is the biggest cast Coventry has had in a few years, a fact that seems to be working nicely for the group. “It’s super fun because I get to meet a lot of the lower classmen, rather than just the people I’ve known from previous shows,” said Arden Allen, a senior who plays Brenda Strong.
Mrs. Cambio, another of the show’s directors, said, “When the audience comes, they’ll see the stage filled, and it makes it such a great experience.”
