Fall is upon us, which means it is time for another CHS Drama Production. This year, the cast and crew present Pippin, the four-time Tony Award-winning musical. Pippin was written in 1972 by three-time Oscar winner and four-time Grammy winner Stephen Schawrtz, who has written other well-known musicals such as Godspell and Wicked. Pippin was revived on Broadway in 2013 and has won many awards, including Best Revival Of A Musical in the 2013 Tony Awards.
The musical is filled with humor, dance numbers, and high energy songs, but will not disappoint in terms of mature themes and ideas on trend with CHS drama teacher, Mr. Wilkinson’s, previous performances.

CHS senior Zack Albro stars as Pippin, while fellow senior Marcus Evans, who played Tony in last year’s production of West Side Story, is the Leading Player. There is also a large ensemble cast.
The musical uses the premise of a “mysterious performance” troupe, led by a Leading Player and the ensemble cast, to tell the story of Pippin- a young prince on his search for life’s meaning.
Throughout the musical, Pippin struggles to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He wants to have this extraordinary life. But he also wonders if he should settle down peacefully and live normally. In the end, will Pippin discover that happiness doesn’t have to come from extravagant milestones but from ordinary moments that happen every day?
When asked about show rehearsal, the cast was proud to say how well it has been going.
“It has been going really well. The entire cast has been working really hard to try to memorize their lines and dances and songs,” says Zack Albro. “The most difficult thing for me would probably be memorizing songs and harmonies.”
“Marcus has been doing well as Leading Player as well. Our chemistry is very good and I think it will be displayed during the show.”
Freshman Parker Frenze also feels positive about the upcoming performance. “Everything has been running smoothly. Even though we work very hard given the limited time we have, we still manage to fit in fun. Everyone is a family and, for me, a freshman, I feel a strong sense of community in the group. And Mr.Wilkinson- I could never replicate what he has done for this group. He really cares about what he does.”
Pippin will run from December 12th to 14th in the CHS Auditorium.
