Celebrating CHS Talent at the Varsity Revue By Samuel Hiers
This year’s Varsity Revue was filled with tons of variety and many exciting acts. Whether it was singing, duets, instrumentals, or even crazy yo-yo tricks, no one performance failed to disappoint on any level.
Performers, entertainers, and the like: Whether they perform at a big show or not, they’re the kinds of people that can make us “in the mood”, laugh, and even cry, but most of all they help spark positive vibes and a great time for all of us. Huge shows and revues are a great way to express these performances and to showcase a variety of different moods and talents. They are fun to watch, right? You certainly think that some of the acts are so intense that it took the performers a long and painstaking time to put it all together for you to enjoy. But in the end, you are left with a great impression and you had an awesome time.
However, if you can put your mind to it, being a performer is not a hard thing to do at all, and instead is an extremely fun experience. All of us have great talents hidden inside us, but choosing to perform those talents in front of others puts us in a strongly positive environment and helps us gain connections with our fellow friends and audience as well. I, myself, was a performer at this year’s CHS Varsity Revue, held February 10-11, 2022 (credit goes to Mrs. Lyndsey Sweeney for putting together an awesome show for the whole school to enjoy), and I thought I would like to write an account of the show and celebrate our wonderful performers here at CHS.
This year’s Varsity Revue was filled with tons of variety and many exciting acts. Whether it was singing, duets, instrumentals, or even crazy yo-yo tricks, no one performance failed to disappoint on any level. The two nightly performances and the two preview shows (held during the Advisory period on the 11th) were incredibly well-received by students and staff alike and definitely got many people talking about this extravaganza. It truly was a show like no other!
But, of course, we could not call it a “performance” without giving credit to all of our wonderful performers and coordinators who should receive warm respect for all they have done and how hard they tried. Some of our school groups and clubs, such as the CHS Jazz Band, Select Chorus, and Cheer Team all put together wonderful acts. Fellow Jazz Band member Matthew Petrarca delivered a smashing rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” on his saxophone. Select Chorus member Jonathan Kenney brought us to tears with his original piece, “Broken”. Stephen Russo showed us the unexpected with a yo-yo in his “Amazing Yo-Yo Act”. Among many of our splendid singers included duets with Lauren Chopy and the aforementioned Kenney on “Someday”, Rylan McCallum and Brenna Leigh Fournier on “Killer”, solos with Adam Lamy on “A Song For You”, Abby McNulty on “Easy on Me”, and many more, including Morgan Jandron, Olivia Almy, Lexie Meaker, Erin Gagnon, and Christina Lancellotta. We cannot forget the hosts of our show, too: our hilarious emcees Riley Considine, Destiny Ortega, and Matthew Lloyd. Kudos to everyone for their amazing effort!
