Avenue Q explores the social issues of today’s world, including racism, homosexuality, relationships, and finding one’s purpose, as it follows a whimsical cast of characters through their lives in New York. While many of the primary characters are portrayed as Sesame Street style puppets, the roles of Brian and Christmas Eve, played by Ray Thibeault and Hannah Lanoue, are the only “humans” in the entire play.

This December, Coventry Drama is proud to present their production of the Tony-winning musical: Avenue Q.
The cast consists of 23 talented students, in addition to management and backstage help. Starring Joe Lachance as Princeton and Harris Cook-Hines as Kate Monster, this year’s comedy musical is sure to attract large audiences, as musicals such as “Rent” and “Hair” did in the past.
Described by director Mr. Wilkinson as “Sesame Street mixed with South Park”, the musical does contain some mature themes that may not be appropriate for audiences under the age of 12, with musical numbers such as “If You Were Gay” and “Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist”.
While many songs, as well as some characters such as Lucy, portrayed by Devlin Cook-Hines, and Mrs. Butz, played by Lissy Shortall, have been adapted for the school edition of the play, viewer discretion is still advised.
Regardless, this show is something every member of the audience is sure to enjoy, with countless moments of both relatable, risque humor and heartfelt emotion. Come support our hardworking cast and crew December 8th through 10th in the auditorium!
