A Time for Giving: Affordable Holiday Gift Ideas By Chris Zaccaria

The time for giving is right around the corner and, as the stores and markets clear out with the endless flurry of rushed shoppers, you are still debating what to get for your family or friends. Despite your desperation to purchase the perfect gift, you just can’t settle on the exact present you need. You may not know what they prefer or desire. Luckily for you, this author has prepared a list of 5 simple — yet effective— holiday gift ideas for that excruciatingly difficult person to shop for.

Well-established by the twinkling, multi-colored lights strung along the porches of numerous homes, the holidays are just an inch of snow away.

  1. “Stitch It Up” Items

Keep your family warm with this gift idea from our very own Ms. Plante’s “Stitch It Up” holiday sale! Crafted by your peers, dazzling hats, coasters, gloves, scarves, mug holders and more are now available and perfect for the cold weather to come! Yarn color and pattern are all customizable to suit the person you’re shopping for! This gift is affordable, adorable, and a perfect gift for this coming holiday season! More information and available items can be found in Ms. Plante’s room in 502. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity!

  1. Chocolates

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than biting into a soft, gooey, delicious chocolate. You dive head-first in the chewy goodness, sinking your teeth into not only a simple candy but also a deep, chocolatey bliss. Various brands release limited-time chocolates just in time for the holidays, which is this author’s “go-to” gift idea! If the person you’re shopping for doesn’t like chocolate or candies, consider gifting them dessert-like sugar cookies or butterscotch. This gift idea is inexpensive and perfect for anyone in the family!

  1. Soft Blankets

Cozying up in the cold winter months with a cup of hot cocoa and the famous Christmas classic, Home Alone, playing in the background can be better than life itself, which is why gifting a fluffy, giant blanket to someone is the best possible present. You can get blankets for as little as five dollars in various stores, such as Target or Walmart. You can even spice things up by getting one sporting a funny image or one to match the holiday season! Next time they grab that blanket and switch on the tv, your face will be the first thing that pops into their head!

  1. Candles

Liven up a family member’s home with some Christmas-themed candles! With the smell of peppermint, cinnamon, and a tinge of pine swirling around in the air, the person you buy this for will sure have a smile on their face each time they light it! This gift is a bit on the pricier side, but for a cheaper alternative, you can buy some car air fresheners! You can buy these anywhere, which makes this gift so simple and ideal if you don’t want to spend hours in a store!

  1. Holiday-Themed Mugs

Last, (but certainly not least) is a cheerful holiday mug! Simple – yet adorable –  with countless designs to choose from, you can also mold this gift with others. For example, you could fill your mug with chocolates and wrap it up as a little gift bag, something anyone would find endearing. You could also squeeze an assortment of hot chocolates in, too, and complete the set with a mug holder from the “Stitch-It-Up” sale! A perfect combination!

Hopefully, by now, you’re feeling a little less stressed about the holidays and what to give that special someone! These gifts are sure to fulfill your needs and are affordable for any high school student. Have a wonderful winter break and this author will see you all soon!
