Since we were at the tail end of Covid protocols, like having to wear masks and complete contact tracing, there was quite a bit of participation for spirit week this year.
This year’s spirit week days and events:
Monday – PJ day, ping pong tournament
Tuesday – Anything but a backpack day, no event
Wednesday – Red & White day, class feud
Thursday – Decades Day, dance competition (No Pep Rally)
Friday – Color wars, anything goes
Since we were at the tail end of Covid protocols, like having to wear masks and complete contact tracing, there was quite a bit of participation for spirit week this year. Many CHS students participated, especially for “anything but a backpack” day. Although the participation was different this year, a number of people, especially for the colored days like Wednesday and Friday, were much more subtle rather than being all decked out. Quite a few seniors were fully decked out in what was the norm for color wars before COVID hit in 2020. This can include tights, shorts, multilayered t-shirts (including a class shirt), headbands, face paint/makeup, bandanas, face rhinestones, etc. Many students had on their class/ red and white colors, thus participating in the days, yet not being completely decked out for the full 20 points.
Even though the events generated less group participation from previous years, there were still quite a few students who showed up and/or participated. One factor behind the lack of participation could be there was no pep rally during advisory on Friday for the dance competition as previous to COVID.
The freshman and sophomores are the only grades who hadn’t had a spirit week in high school. The seniors and juniors both had, respectfully, one or two years to see what was considered normal during spirit week. The way the underclassmen were very subtle and not decked out for maximum points makes a lot of sense when you understand that this is their first spirit week.
As per usual, the seniors won with a 625 point lead, followed by juniors, freshmen, then sophomores. Although the seniors winning doesn’t surprise anyone, the freshmen beating the sophomore class is a surprise. This speaks to how much the sophomores hadn’t participated during the school days and afternoon events.
Here’s how the events turned out:
