Introducing Oakers TV
BY CONNOR MCKAIG
With Coventry football season currently underway, there’s no better time to get together with friends and watch some good old-fashioned gridiron. However, if you’ve attended any games this year, you may have noticed something new; our very own sports broadcasters of Oakers TV are now in the bleachers with their cameras at the ready.
Oakers TV is a student-run organization dedicated to providing coverage of all Coventry football games, home or away. Their job includes but is not limited to photographing the team, interviewing players, and even live-streaming games on Instagram for anybody to watch.
In an electronic interview, member Josh Bricker describes some of the ways in which Oakers TV benefits the team. “Right now, we help out the coaches with film, and take pictures and videos to turn into little highlight videos for the players. The film for the coaches helps them because it sends what we record directly to the coaches right after we film it, sort of like an instant replay system so they can watch the play over again.”
Another Coventry student, Anthony Volatile, gave some insight into the reasons that he and several others decided to join. “Initially, it was the coaches’ idea to have someone film the plays for them, and Josh was the run up and later invited the rest of us. Then we had plans to help with the school graphics, and have plans to help make money for the school”.
As you can see, the students behind Oakers TV are willing to contribute to the football program in any way possible. And, according to their Instagram page (@oakers.tv), we may see them cover other sports, such as basketball and hockey, in the future. Stay tuned!
